Part two of the Season 2 finale of The CW’s “Black Lightning” airs tonight, but will there be more episodes of the superhero show after that?

The series, which stars Cress Williams (Jefferson Pierce / Black Lightning), China Anne McClain (Jennifer Pierce / Lightning) and Nafessa Williams (Anissa Pierce / Thunder), found out its fate earlier this year when CW president Mark Pedowitz announced the show had been renewed for a Season 3 instead of getting canceled.

“Black Lightning” received its renewal at the same time nine of its fellow CW shows did, including “Arrow,” “Legacies,” “Supernatural” and “The Flash.”

“This season, we expanded our primetime schedule to six nights with the addition of Sunday — which has been an unqualified success for the network, our affiliates and our advertisers. In addition to growing our schedule across the week, we also continue to add more year-round programming,” CW president Mark Pedowitz said at the TCA winter 2019 press tour in January, according to Deadline.

He continued: “The early renewal of these signature CW series gives us a head start on laying out the 2019-2020 season, and this is just the beginning. These shows provide a strong foundation for our multiplatform programming strategy, and we look forward to building on this with even more returning and new shows as we approach the May upfront.”

Though it’s easy to already look ahead to Season 3, there’s still one episode of Season 2 left (episode 16, titled “The Book of the Apocalypse: Chapter Two: The Omega”) to enjoy. Here’s what fans can expect from the “Black Lightning” Season 2 finale:

“Lynn (Christine Adams) goes head to head with Dr. Jace (guest star Jennifer Riker) once and for all. Meanwhile, Gambi (James Remar) risks his life to save Jennifer,” according to the synopsis. “Lastly, Tobias (Marvin Jones III) makes a major move to cripple Freeland and kill Black Lightning, requiring our superhero family to step up like never before.”

Catch “Black Lightning” on The CW tonight at 9 p.m. EDT, and enjoy the episode knowing the the show’s confirmed to be coming back for a Season 3.
