Will ‘Legacies’ Season 2 Finally Show Caroline? Candice King Open To Returning

“Legacies” can mostly exist without the characters from “The Vampire Diaries” or “Originals” popping up, but one very important character needs to come in eventually: Caroline Forbes-Salvatore.

Josie (Kaylee Bryant) and Lizzie’s (Jenny Boyd) mother is often mentioned, and she founded the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted. However, she has been traveling the world looking for a way to stop the Merge, the magical ritual that will kill one of her daughters. Still, it seems like audiences need to see her at some point. Will Season 2 finally be the time to bring in the cheerful vampire?

According to “Legacies” showrunner Julie Plec, the story isn’t quite there yet in the beginning of Season 2.

“We are not seeing her yet,” Plec told Entertainment Weekly. “But we are always talking to Candice [King] and she is absolutely game. It’s just gotta be the right time, the right story, the right moment. And we will find it. I am convinced.”

The good news is that actress Candice King, who currently hosts the podcast “Directionally Challenged” with former “TVD” co-star Kayla Ewell, is open to returning. The actress even moderated the “Legacies” panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

For now, though, fans will just have to live with mentions of Caroline. In the “Legacies” Season 2 premiere, Josie will stay at home with Alaric (Matt Davis) while Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) is abroad with Caroline. As per usual, audiences won’t see the vampire, but they’ll hear her name plenty.

Though Plec has said they haven’t found the right time to put Caroline onscreen yet, it’s worth noting that the “Legacies” writers haven’t finished writing Season 2. Anything could happen.

Another return, however, has been confirmed. “The Originals” star Riley Voelkel will reprise her role as Freya, one of Hope's (Danielle Rose Russell) only living relatives. TV Guide reports that she will appear in Season 2, episode 6.
