Will Sheriff Hopper Die In ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3? Actor Fears So
December is already off to a great start for “Stranger Things.” Not only has Netflix officially renewed it for a third season, but the series also received multiple Golden Globes nominations on Monday.
The series is nominated under the Best TV Series (Drama) category, but one of its star David Harbour is also up for a Best Supporting TV Actor award, something he’s trying to use to his full advantage.
With the news of the show’s new season out there, Harbour is dangling his Golden Globes nomination in front of the “Stranger Things” writers and using it as a huge reason for why his character, Sheriff Hopper, shouldn’t be killed off when the series returns.
When fans last saw Hopper at the end of Season 2, he’d just secured a fake birth certificate for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), in order for her to live life out in the open, and was happy to continue on as her guardian. If he dies, what will happen to Eleven? If he’s convincing enough to the writers, hopefully no one will have to find out.
“Does this mean I won’t die in Season 3?” he asked the writers on Twitter, after they congratulated him on his nomination.
He begged for them to tell him what was going to happen to Hopper and if he’ll survive all of Season 3, but the writers were being very tight-lipped, literally, replying with just a zipper-mouthed emoji.
Though we don’t know for sure what’s to come for Sheriff Hopper, fans are hoping the character survives, if only just to see more dancing, like he did in Season 2, which has become pretty much the GIF of the year.
That’s another reason why Harbour should win at the Golden Globes, too. Not only was his acting great in the series, but he promised on Twitter after the nominations came out that he would do the “Hopper Dance” if he won.
Fans have Twitter user Gorgosprizza to thank for that epic request.
For those that somehow don’t remember the momentous occasion of Sheriff Hopper dancing, the “Stranger Things” Twitter account reminded everyone by including the fan-favorite GIF in its congratulatory tweet to Harbour.
Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven, did the same thing, though she included a still image of Sheriff Hopper mid-dance in her tweet wishing him her sincerest congratulations, even including the hashtag “#DadDance.”
While we wait for a release date of “Stranger Things” Season 3, at least we have all of this fun cast and crew online banter to keep us busy and entertained.
