Will ‘Sister Wives’ Be Canceled? Fans Have Theories About Show’s Future
It has been a couple of weeks since fans saw the final episode of “Sister Wives,” and fans think that might have been a wrap for the Brown family and TLC won’t bring them back for another season of the show in 2021.
Since the series came to a seemingly abrupt end without a Tell-All special, fans have been taking to social media and blogs with complaints about the recent season and concerns about the show's future. However, as rumors continue to circulate that the show could be on the chopping block, some are beginning to feel the series might still have a good chance of being renewed.
The “Surviving Sister Wives” podcast took to Twitter to indicate that despite production being shut down on the show, it would likely still come back because if anything was shot before coronavirus had an effect on the filming industry, there is material that can be used to create episodes.
In addition, the series had fairly decent ratings—scoring 1.9 million viewers for its premiere in January, where it ran opposite the Grammy Awards.
Still, fans have had concerns about the show’s longevity after what they felt was a fairly lackluster season for the show, with the main story points focusing on the family’s struggles since moving to Flagstaff and securing homes to live in while they waited for the ability to build on their Coyote Pass property. The end of the season also focused on Madison giving birth to her second child, Evangalynn,
Fans have expressed ideas of what might be needed to save the show on platforms including Reddit.
“I honestly feel like the only way the show could produce huge season ratings again is if one of the wives leaves,” one user wrote on the show’s page. “I feel like Meri has! I want them to be honest. Everyone knows there hiding things. That’s not how they really live. If they want to keep the show going there gonna have to go back to basics of being actually real. I know what’s really going on is more interesting.”
“What a train wreck this show has turned into. Last season was all about moving...and moving again...and crying about having to move...and moving again. There was really no substance at all. It was little snipits [spk] here and there of the show, with a LOT of ‘filler,’” another wrote.
TLC has not revealed its plans for the show’s future, and an announcement about a new season likely won’t happen until the end of the year at the earliest.
