Will Tom Bergeron And Erin Andrews Return For ‘DWTS’ Season 30?
“Dancing With the Stars” has not officially been renewed for a milestone 30th season yet, but fans are already wondering one big question about the newest episodes if they air—and that question has nothing to do with the celebrity contestants or pro dancers.
In fact, now that Tyra Banks’ first season as a host is officially finished, fans are wondering if the show would actually change their tune for Season 30—and bring back ousted co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.
News that the pair had been removed from the show amidst a “new creative direction” over the summer was met with anger from longtime fans of the show, and that wasn’t resolved when Banks was quickly announced to be the new host. As the season wore on and she continued making mistakes, fans continued expressing even more outrage. Now, with a new season potentially on the horizon in 2021, there is renewed hope that Bergeron and Andrews will return.
Unfortunately, fans may have to stick with Banks, even if they don’t want to. Not only has ABC stuck by their decision to go in a new creative direction, but it has been presumed that since she was a big part of the new direction the show was taking—serving not just as a host but an Executive Producer as well—that she signed a multi-year contract, which would leave her in the job she assumed for an unspecified amount of time. Details about her contract have not been made public.
However, there is also the fact that since his ouster, Bergeron has been somewhat vocal about his time on the show—and even hinted that he wouldn’t consider a return if it was offered.
While appearing on “The Stuttering John” Podcast in October, Bergeon discussed his departure from the show, admitting that changes had already been in the air since 2018, and that he missed the earlier years of the show, and when asked if he would consider coming back if he was approached to be a contestant, his reply was vehement.
“Oh [EXPLETIVE] no,” he said at the time. “We’re done, we’re done, that train has left the station.”
Ratings are also a huge part of considering the show’s future each year, as it has often suffered a decline each season. While the exact number of average viewers (excluding finale episodes) did dip for Season 29, the show’s ratings share improved, from a 0.8 average to a 0.9 average—which could be an encouraging sign for the network to continue with Banks in the hosting gig if they pick the show up once more.
“Dancing With the Stars” Season 30 news remains undecided.
