Will.i.am To Unveil Smartwatch That Plays Music And Takes Calls

The latest wearable device is not coming from a giant tech company but rather from a recording artist with a . Wednesday is launch day for Will.i.am's smartwatch, a piece of wearable tech that the pop star has been teasing for a number of months.

The device, from I.am+, Adams’ company behind the smartwatch, is set to be unveiled during Dreamforce, a San Francisco conference hosted by cloud-computing pioneer Salesforce.com.

Not much is known about the watch, but Will.i.am, whose real name is William Adams, has leaked a couple of features, namely the ability to play music and take calls without being tethered to a smartphone.

The pop star was seen in September showing off the smartwatch during one of his shows by DJ-ing through the device. And the watch has made a number of appearances on talk shows and “The Voice” television singing competition, albeit with intermittent audio problems.

was one of the first four startups funded by Salesforce’s $100 million venture fund, Salesforce1. It’s not known how much went to backing Adams’ venture. The watch was supposed to launch in July but was delayed for reasons that have not been made public.

The announcement of Adams’ smartwatch comes a day before Apple Inc. is expected to unveil new iPads, Macs and the release version of OS X Yosemite. The Cupertino, California, tech giant acquired Beats Electronics for $3 billion earlier this year, a company of which Adams was a founding member.
