Windermere, Florida, 10-Year-Old Survives Deadly Home Invasion, Calls Police While Hiding In Bathroom
Law enforcement officials in Windermere, Florida, received a 911 call from a 10-year-old boy on Thursday about an ongoing home invasion. The attack resulted in two deaths, but the child's quick actions allowed him to safely hide in a bathroom until the police arrived at the scene.
As reported by ClickOrlando.com, the attack occurred within a gated Windermere community. The Windermere Police Department said a man named Ezekiel Emanuel Hopkins had used his car to push open the gates before attempting to steal a vehicle from a home.
After being confronted by the homeowners, John and Lisa Savey, police stated that Hopkins attacked John and beat him to death with a baseball bat outside of the residence. The reported assailant then went into the residence where he beat Lisa and her son, James Savey, who also died. Lisa was later transported to a hospital with serious injuries, as stated by law enforcement officials.
During the attack, the 10-year-old, who lived at home with his grandparents, called 911 in order to report the home burglary. While the altercation was in progress, the police dispatcher was able to keep the boy on the phone as he hid in the bathroom.
Once police arrived at the scene, they found Hopkins in another bathroom. He was then arrested but later transported to an area hospital due to the fact that he had become unresponsive after appearing to ingest bleach. The child was not harmed during the attack and is reportedly doing well.
At this time, Hopkins faces two counts of murder and one charge of aggravated battery.
