KEY POINTS
“Winds of Winter” author hasn’t fired his staff amid the pandemic
George RR Martin’s employees are working virtually to build YouTube content
The author is expected to finish his highly anticipated book in 2020
George RR Martin is currently busy finishing “Winds of Winter,” but not all jobs can be done from home. Companies across the country have been losing revenues because of the coronavirus pandemic that has forced some firms to downsize and fire employees. Martin, however, has found a way to keep his staff employed and engaged while the world waits for a vaccine.
Apart from his work as a writer of books and TV scripts, Martin is also a businessman who owns a bookstore and a theater. The Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe was forced to close down because of the pandemic, but Martin revealed on Twitter that he is not going to fire his employees.
Since the employees can’t work at the theatre, Martin has assigned them a new task. His staff is currently busy working remotely on the theater’s YouTube channel. The “Winds of Winter” author shared a picture of the animation character the Iron Giant wearing a facemask while asking his fans to check out the YouTube channel.
Elaborating on the work his staff is doing, Martin took to his blog to explain what the fans will find on the YouTube channel. The staff has put together videos from some of the previous events that were conducted at the theater, which included “terrific writers” as guests. Some of the writers who have been part of these events include John Scalzi, Alan Brennert, Lee Child, Marlon James, and John Nicholas.
Among the “fun stuffs” on the channel are children’s book reviews, music and magic, art show openings, and recipes for “award-winning cocktails.” Martin hopes to add new content like more book events that they can conduct once the lockdown ends.
Among the cocktail recipes that are shared on the JCC YouTube channel is a drink that is Martin’s favourite. The drink is called “The George R.R. Margarita!”
As far as “Winds of Winter” is concerned, Martin didn’t share any progress with the fans. The author is currently practicing social distancing at home and he has previously said that he hopes to compete the book soon. The book is expected to be completed before the end of 2020.
