KEY POINTS

  • "Winds of Winter" release date may be in 2021
  • George Rr Martin has promised to finish the book in 2020
  • The stories in the books may be different from the TV series

It has been a while since “Game of Thrones” aired its last episode, but there is still no sign if a release date for the book “Winds of Winter.” After failing to meet several of his self-imposed deadlines, George RR Martin has given the fans a hint about when they can expect the book to hit the stores around the world.

Martin has too many projects that he is a part of, but his first priority now is to finish the next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the author confirmed that he has been working hard on the book “in isolation.” He joked that his loyal staff have chained him to the typewriter and are forcing him to eat healthy food. “It’s horrible,” he said with a laugh.

After working on the book for nearly a decade, Martin should be close to finishing it. The latest deadline for finishing “Winds of Winter” that Martin gave on his blog is the Worldcon in New Zealand, which will begin on July 29. He promised to have the finished manuscript in his hands when he attends the convention this year.

If Martin manages to finish the book by July, it will still take some time for it to be released to the public. The editing process should take a few months, and the fans can expect the book to be out by early 2021.

The TV series has already revealed how the story will end, but there are many theories about how the books will be different. According to Screen Rant, one change in the books could be about how Martin will bring back Jon Snow.

While the show had a simple ritual to help bring Jon Snow back, “Winds of Winter” may show him warg into Ghost. In this way, the character will take a longer road to what may be the same ending.
