A 1-month-old baby was injured after the baby’s mother crashed the car with the child inside. The incident took place in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on Sunday (May 31).

According to local reports, the deputies with the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Town of Sheboygan Fire Department, Sheboygan County Highway Department and Orange Cross Ambulance responded to Interstate 43 around 5.50 p.m. after receiving several calls in reference to a single-vehicle rollover crash.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 25-year-old Sabrina Walker, and her baby were airlifted to Froedtert Hospital and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin respectively. Their conditions were not known.

Meanwhile, officers said the car rolled over and came to a rest on its roof. The vehicle was northbound and came to a rest in the southbound lane.

Following an investigation, Walker was cited for operating while intoxicated (OWI) and causing injury with a passenger less than 16 years old. She was also cited for other traffic offenses.

The incident comes less than a month after an intoxicated Florida woman was charged after she crashed her van with a 4-year-old child inside. Deputies responded to Highway 27 after receiving a report of a single-vehicle crash. The officers spoke to the driver, 37-year-old Karla Del Rosari Camejo Quiva, at the scene and determined that she was impaired as the officers could smell alcohol on her breath. The driver was taken to the police station where a breath test showed .155 and .164 blood alcohol content. She was arrested and charged with one count each of DUI and child neglect. Neither the woman nor the child was injured in the incident.

In another incident earlier this year, a 3-year-old died after her mother crashed a vehicle with the girl inside. Leslie Joe Zeagler was driving a minivan with her daughter when she blacked out. The van struck a palm tree following which the vehicle rolled and the child was ejected from it. The child died on the spot and the driver was rushed to a local hospital. The mother surrendered to police and was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.
