- Doctors later found that the earbud had passed after examining her
A woman claimed she ingested one of her Apple AirPods Pro earbuds after she mistook it for an Ibuprofen tablet.
"I ate my f-----g left AirPod," the woman, identified as Carli, said in a video she uploaded to her TikTok account on Nov. 8.
The 27-year-old had accidentally swallowed the wireless audio device, which comes in pairs for $299, because both of her hands were full at the time, 7News.com.au reported.
Carli, who had an Ibuprofen 800 tablet in one hand and the left earbud in the other, "threw something back" and drank water from a water bottle, the woman explained in the video that has since been viewed over 3.2 million times. She quickly realized that what she had swallowed was not the painkiller tablet.
Carli attempted to force the earbud out by puking, but it did not come out. She later received a notification from Apple, which stated that her swallowed AirPod had been detected.
"An AirPods Pro has been moving with you for a while. The owner can see its location. You can play a sound to see it," the message read.
Carli captured a voice memo from the AirPod Pro inside her body and uploaded the sound clip on her TikTok account.
Additionally, she reportedly played the "Find My AirPod" sound and heard it from her stomach before she disconnected the device from her phone.
An ingested AirPod could either pass harmlessly though a system or get lodged in the intestines, which would require surgery. There is also a small possibility that the audio device could rupture.
Doctors revealed that the earbud Carli swallowed had passed after she went through an X-ray and some other medical exams.
"I had a feeling that I passed it... I did not retrieve it, but I know that it passed. I know that it was in my stomach and no longer is," Carli explained in a follow-up post on her TikTok.
Carli explained in her video that she shared her "journey" with the swallowed AirPod online for "educational purposes" as she was "not the first person to do this" and she "definitely won't be the last."
