In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, a woman was caught on camera sticking a burning cigarette into a puppy's eyes several times, causing outrage among social media users and animal activists.

In the over two-minute video, the woman can be seen holding the helpless puppy in the air by its scruff and sticking the burning cigarette into its eye several times, as it yelps in pain. She then continues to smoke the cigarette to keep it lit, before sticking it again into the helpless canine’s eyes. Throughout the video, the puppy’s mouth is tied shut.

Though the exact location of the incident was not known, the video went viral in Malaysia and Singapore, leaving people boiling with rage.

Following the outrage, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) took to Facebook to appeal for more information.

“A video has been circulating on WhatsApp, featuring a woman horrifically abusing a puppy by burning its eyes and breaking its limbs while its mouth is tied shut. There are indications that the incident may not have occurred in Singapore but we are exploring all possibilities and urgently appealing for credible information to seek justice for the puppy,” SPCA said in a statement Friday.

“If you know the identity and whereabouts of the woman, please provide the information to the relevant agency in your country. Alternatively, you can contact us at inspector@spca.org.sg and we will relay the message in strict confidence. Let us stand united against animal cruelty, wherever it may occur,” the statement added.

The organization also appealed to not circulate the video as “There are syndicates that profit from animal torture films, including some that are produced for sexual fetish."
