Woman Flings Newborn Daughter To Death From 17th Floor Because She Was Angry With Husband
A newborn was flung to death from the 17th floor of a building by her mother who was angry with her husband for not looking after her. The incident took place in the Indian state of Maharashtra on Thursday.
Police responded to the scene Thursday afternoon after receiving reports of a baby found dead in the apartment premises. Residents of the apartment complex told the responding officers they heard a loud sound while waiting for the lift and “rushed to the pipeline duct on the ground floor” only to find the newborn there.
Investigation revealed that the 22-year-old unidentified woman had given birth to the girl in the bathroom, a few minutes before she threw her from the window. It was learned that the woman lived with her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law in the apartment and that the husband and his mother were not at home when the incident took place. The woman and her husband had two other children.
“She went to the bathroom where she gave birth to the child on her own and soon after, threw her from the window. The sister-in-law claims she did not know about the incident, but we are questioning her. The accused told us that she suspected that the husband was having an affair and was not giving money to take care of expenses and so she was struggling to take care of their two children,” police said.
The accused was currently being treated for dehydration at the hospital and will be arrested as soon as she is discharged. A case of murder was registered against her.
"We might not arrest the woman presently. Her statement is to be recorded and the husband's statement will also be recorded. Several other people in the neighborhood are being questioned," an officer said.
