Woman Gets Thrashed By Husband And In-Laws Allegedly For Taking A Nap After Lunch
A woman's habit of taking an afternoon nap was deemed unacceptable in her in-laws' home. The 24-year-old woman from India's Gujarat alleged that she was thrashed by her husband and in-laws for taking a nap after lunch.
She filed a domestic violence complaint against her husband and in-laws Sunday. The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, started living with her husband and his parents after her marriage in 2016. It was not long before arguments ensued in the household. Her habit of taking a nap after lunch became a grave issue, the local daily Times of India reported.
"They used to object to me taking siesta soon after my marriage," the woman said. "As I had a habit of taking a nap after lunch and as I used to wake up early in the morning, I could not keep myself awake during afternoons."
She said her husband and his parents used to physically abuse her. She filed a complaint when the abuse first started but continued living with her husband after they reached a compromise.
However, the situation in the household did not get any better even after that. The woman said her husband and his family did not support her even when she gave birth to a child. She delivered a baby girl in September 2017, but instead of supporting her, the family members beat her for not giving birth to a male child, reported India Today.
"My husband and in-laws did not help me when I was pregnant and sent me to my parents' place," she claimed.
The husband and in-laws threw her out of their house in February, the woman said, adding that her husband refused to allow her back home even after local leaders intervened and tried to resolve the situation.
