Woman Kills Herself Suspecting She Was Infected With Coronavirus, Tests Negative In Autopsy
A South Korean woman killed herself suspecting that she was infected with the coronavirus. The incident took place in Indonesia’s Central Java.
According to local reports, the 57-year-old woman, who was working at a company in Central Java, traveled to China and South Korea last month. She returned to Indonesia on Feb. 16 and checked into a hotel. She then complained of sore throat. On Feb. 23, the hotel staff felt something amiss when the woman didn’t come out from her room.
The staff knocked on her room. When she didn’t answer despite knocking several times, the staff entered the room and found the woman hanging in the bathroom. The staff immediately informed the police.
During investigation, the police found a note stating the woman suspected she was infected with the virus.
“We found a note from her, in Korean, which said that she was tired of never recovering from a disease, and she felt that she may have been infected with the coronavirus,” Solo Police Chief Grand Commissioner Andy Rifai said.
The woman’s body was sent for autopsy which revealed that she was not infected with the virus. Her body was cremated.
