A man was racially abused inside a grocery store in Canada by a woman who blamed Asians for causing the COVID-19 pandemic. She told him it happened "because of you people."

Ken Mak, of Nun's Island in Montreal, said he was with his girlfriend at a local grocery store Monday when a woman approached them, reported CTV News.

The woman asked him if he was Chinese. "So I told her 'yes' ... Then, she started asking questions about the pandemic. Before I could respond, she would cut me off and start her monologue about how Chinese people are to blame for the whole coronavirus," Mak said.

A video of the incident, captured by Mak himself, shows the woman having a meltdown. "It's about all of this 21 months of b-----it," the woman was heard saying in the video. "It's because of you Chinese people."

The woman, dressed in sweat pants and a winter parka, could also be seen flashing her middle finger, cursing and threatening to get a family lawyer involved. When someone, who is off-camera, asked her to "leave these people alone," she responded with curses and finger-pointing, while continuing her anti-Asian rant. She also called the other customers "losers."

The woman, whose identity was not revealed, was escorted out of the store soon after.

Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils told CBC News that they got a call from the store Monday about the incident.

Though no additional reports were made about the case, the incident left Mak, who moved to Canada 20 years ago, shocked because Canada is considered "a very accepting country."

Mak said he recorded the incident and upload it so that people could see what it was like. "I can show Canada that these things are happening and that it's real, and it needs to stop," he added.

The man is not planning to pursue a police case despite feeling threatened and fearing for the Asian community.

"People are thinking that Asian people are responsible for the coronavirus," he said. "We need people to know that this is what happens to Asian people here and it's not acceptable in Canada."

The video has since gone viral and many people have condemned the incident. Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante tweeted that the verbal attack was "unacceptable" and she "denounce this woman's racist remarks."
