Woman Rammed To Death By Comfort Animal While Volunteering At Massachusetts Farm
A woman volunteering at a farm in Massachusetts lost her life after being attacked by a comfort animal.
The incident happened Saturday. Kim Taylor, 73, was alone in a pen when a sheep charged at her and caused fatal injuries by repeatedly ramming into her, New York Post reported.
Taylor had been volunteering at the Cultivate Care Farms in Bolton, west of Boston, for a little over a year before the incident took place. The non-profit provides farm-based therapy programs to improve mental health, and all the animals found on the farm are comfort animals, according to the outlet.
Described as “a huge animal lover,” Taylor was working alone in a pen Saturday morning when the sheep charged at her. The longtime volunteer was left with severe injuries before going into cardiac arrest shortly after first responders arrived, according to Boston 25 News.
Bolton Police Officers and Patriot ALS rushed Taylor to Marlborough Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
“She was still alive when we got there. It turned bad quickly. She was able to talk to officers,” Bolton Police Chief Warren Nelson said.
Taylor’s daughters released a statement Monday about the septuagenarian's tragic death.
“Our mother, Kim Taylor, was not only a great mother, grandmother and friend but was also a huge animal lover. She found joy in her weekly volunteering at Cultivate Care Farms in Bolton, MA. This accident was tragic and we are so very sad,” the statement said.
“She was a nurse for over 30 years and recently retired from nursing after taking care of her patients in the Critical Care Unit at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton,” it continued.
“She was an avid knitter, cook and Red Sox fan. She greeted others while walking her dogs and always found joy on these outdoor walks. During this difficult time, our family asks that the media and public respect our privacy as we grieve her loss,” the statement added.
Cultivate Care Farms also released a statement in response to the death of the “treasured volunteer.”
“Kim was beloved by all who worked with her during the 14 months she volunteered at the farm,” Megan Moran, Director of Cultivate Care Farms, said. “I, along with the Cultivate Care Farms Board and the entire team, wish to express our deepest condolences and our heartfelt love and support to Kim’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
The incident is still being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police and the Bolton Police Department. The fate of the sheep that rammed into Taylor at the farm is yet to be decided.
“It’s still ongoing because we called in the state police detectives to do their death investigation,” Nelson said.
