A 37-year-old woman in New South Wales, Australia, was crushed between two cars this week following what appeared to be an argument with several people.
The unnamed woman appeared to be in a dispute with a group on Young Street in Parramatta Tuesday night before a Land Rover reversed at speed and sandwiched her between the sports utility vehicle and another car, 7News.com.au reported.
The driver of the Land Rover was seen tussling with the group before getting into the vehicle and reversing while the woman was standing behind the car, according to the outlet.
The driver then allegedly drove off and fled the scene without stopping to help the woman, who was left bleeding on the ground.
Responding medical personnel treated the woman at the scene before taking her to the hospital. She underwent surgery on a broken leg and suffered severe lacerations.
Residents in the area struggled to comprehend what they had heard following the dispute.
"I could hear a squealing noise, a woman screaming and shouting," an unnamed witness told 7News.
"It seemed like wailing... I thought someone had been murdered," another person living in the area said.
Police are now looking to speak with any witnesses. Additionally, authorities are looking for the driver of the Land Rover, whom they said is related to the victim.
It was not clear what had provoked the incident.
A similar incident that occurred in Honolulu, Hawaii, earlier this month resulted in a 52-year-old man dying, KHON reported.
The unnamed man had been standing next to a vehicle, waiting to get into it, in a parking lot on Keeaumoku Street on Sept. 12 when another car reversed out of a parking stall and hit him. The man fell back and hit his head.
The 27-year-old driver of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox that struck the older man was not injured and remained at the scene.
The older man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. He died on Sept. 24, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office.
The unnamed 27-year-old driver was arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant and negligent injury in the first degree.
Authorities believe alcohol was involved for both the driver and the pedestrian. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
