A woman in India set her husband on fire following an argument, then her lover allegedly dropped a boulder on the victim to make sure he was dead.

The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. The victim, identified as 52-year-old Narayana, and his wife, 36-year-old Annapoorna, were married for 18 years and had three children, reported The New Indian Express.

The couple had been having frequent arguments over Annapoorna's alleged affair with 35-year-old Ramakrishna. During one such altercation Sunday, the woman, in a fit of rage, picked up a can of petrol and emptied it on her husband before setting him on fire, The Times of India said in a report.

In an attempt to save himself, the victim ran out of his home and jumped into nearby drainage. However, her wife's lover, who was inside the residence when the incident took place, ran behind him and dropped a boulder on his head to make sure he was dead. The victim suffered severe injuries to the head and died on the spot.

Police have since taken both the accused into custody. During interrogation, Annapoorna reportedly confessed to killing her husband but claimed she did so as she could no longer withstand his "abuse" toward her. The charges levied against the accused were not known.

The investigation revealed Narayana and Annapoorna's 14-year-old daughter witnessed the entire incident while her younger siblings were inside the room, according to India Express.

Last month, a 42-year-old woman in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu was taken into custody along with her 77-year-old lover after they murdered her husband and another man. The duo first killed a farmer in 2020 after he refused to repay the money he had borrowed from them. When the woman's husband found out about the crime, he started blackmailing her and demanded money to buy alcohol. Unable to bear his torture, the duo murdered her husband by beating him with wooden logs and setting his body on fire.
