Woman Shot Dead By Estranged Husband In Front Of Three Children
A woman in Vancouver, Washington, who was fatally shot by her estranged husband at an elementary school parking lot Tuesday was sitting in a minivan with her three young children and her mother, the woman's family said Wednesday.
Deputies arrived at the Sarah J. Anderson Elementary School in Hazel Dell after the staff alerted them about a man shooting the woman, Tiffany Hill. The incident occurred at around 3:15 p.m. local time (6:15 p.m. EST), just after the school had ended for the day. The woman's estranged husband, Keland Hill, shot and killed himself shortly after following a car chase with the police, police said.
Tiffany's children who were present at the scene escaped without injuries, her sister, Tabitha Ojeda, said in a GoFundMe post. Her mother, who was also shot three times, underwent multiple surgeries and was expected to survive.
The children were in the custody of Tiffany's another sister, who was planning to take them to New York with her. The GoFundMe page was created to collect money for the plane tickets, ABC News reported.
Tiffany had an active restraining order against Keland following a long history of abuse, according to court records. He had reportedly violated the order multiple times.
Keland, 38, was arrested for stalking Tiffany on Nov. 7. Clark County Superior Court Judge John Fairgrieve set his bail at $75,000. At a Nov. 15 hearing, Fairgrieve raised the bail amount to $250,000. The court also set “intensive conditions” if Keland posted bail, records show. Keland posted bail on Nov. 22, just ahead of the shooting.
He was back in the judge’s court to seek approval for commuting to work using a vehicle hours before the murder.
“The road the children have ahead of them is not an easy one,” Ojeda wrote on the GoFundMe post Wednesday. “This journey will not be easy, it will be emotionally, physically, mentally and financially draining, but with all the love and support we can try to give these children the best lives we possibly can.”
