Woman Sleeps Next To Husband's Body After Murdering Him, Convinces Kids He Is Asleep
A woman in India was arrested for murdering her husband after the man picked up a fight with her in an inebriated state. After the murder, the woman slept next to the man's body and convinced the kids that he was asleep, police said.
The shocking incident happened in Raebareli, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, on Dec.15. It only came to light after the woman, identified as Annu, told the cops that she found her husband, Atul, dead outside her home the next day, Deccan Herald reported.
Police initially investigated the case as death by overdose of alcohol as the victim was known to be a drunkard. However, the investigation took a turn after an autopsy report Tuesday determined that Atul's death was a homicide due to strangulation.
Police took Annu into custody and she confessed to the killing. Investigation revealed that Annu, who worked at a beauty parlor, had an altercation with her husband after he came home inebriated and thrashed her. The woman hit the man with a heavy object and strangled the unconscious victim to death, police said.
The suspect then took the body to the bed to appear as if he was asleep and slept next to his body. The next day, when the kids complained that the father was not responding, she asked them not to wake him up as he was "asleep" and "tired" and went to her work, police said.
In the evening, after returning from work, when the kids fell asleep, she took out her husband's corpse and dumped it outside her gate. The next morning, she alerted the neighbors, claiming her husband fell and died as he was heavily drunk, India Today reported.
Based on the findings in the autopsy and the discrepancies in Annu's statements, she was taken into custody.
During interrogation, Annu admitted that she murdered her husband as he was an alcoholic and often thrashed her in an inebriated state. She was also reportedly upset that the victim often spend her salary on liquor.
