Woman Tied Up, Set Ablaze By Husband For Not Bearing Children, Succumbs To Burns
A woman died after she was set ablaze by her husband for not bearing children in the three years of marriage. The incident took place in the Rod El Farag district of Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday.
According to local reports, the accused, identified as Jamal al-Sayyid Ali Ahmed, and his mother started abusing the victim, Aya Mohamed Seed Abdal Tawab, after learning about her infertility. On Wednesday morning, the man tied his wife up, poured an inflammable substance over her before setting her ablaze at home. He then rushed to his mother’s home in the same apartment complex.
In the meantime, some neighbors informed the police after seeing smoke coming out of the home. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital, however, was pronounced dead on arrival. Doctors said the victim had suffered 70% burns to her body and one of the lungs was damaged because of which she didn’t survive.
Neighbors told the police that Ahmed and his mother used to constantly “beat and berate” the victim in their three years of marriage and "always called her infertile." After taking the statement, police took the accused into custody. Ahmed was being referred to public prosecutors.
