A woman in India was arrested for murdering her toddler son to exact revenge on her in-laws, who opposed her marrying two other men a few months after her first marriage, reports said.
The incident that happened last month in Ajmer, a city in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan, came to light after the child's mother who was interrogated on suspicion of murder confessed to the crime, Times Now News reported.
The suspect, identified as Pooja Sen, admitted to strangling her 1-year-old son to death to frame her mother-in-law and sister-in-law for the crime so that they would be jailed, police said.
An investigation revealed that Pooja married the victim's father Pushpendra Sen, in 2018. However, four months into her marriage with Pushpendra, Pooja left him for another man to whom she got married. After a few months into her second marriage, she left the man and married another man. Eventually, Pooja left the third marriage and returned to her first husband.
However, Pushpendra's parents often fought with Pooja over her relationships and disowned Pushpendra from owning their family's property. Pooja then decided to exact revenge on them and murdered her son and blamed the death on the in-laws, police said.
During interrogation, Pooja told the officers that she realized her mistake and attempted to kill herself on May 26, almost two weeks after she murdered her son. Pooja was rushed to the hospital after attempting to slit her wrist and was saved, Granthasala reported.

Two brothers in India were arrested earlier this week for murdering their mother who opposed the elder son from getting married to a girl of his choice. The victim, identified as 42-year-old Nirmala Vijay Thakur from the Indian city of Mumbai, was found dead Saturday while her husband returned from work after night duty. During interrogation, Thakur's two sons admitted that they murdered the victim with the help of the girlfriend of the elder son for opposing the marriage and practicing black magic.
