The winner of the food network show 'Worst Cooks in America' Season 20, along with her husband, has been charged with homicide in the death of a 3-year-old girl.
Ariel Robinson, 29, and her husband Jerry Robinson, 34, were arrested Tuesday from their residence in Simpsonville, South Carolina, in connection with the death of Victoria Rose Smith.
On Jan. 14, Victoria was reportedly found unresponsive at the couple’s home at around 2:25 p.m. She had multiple blunt force injuries and was declared dead at the Greenville Memorial Hospital.
According to Greenville County senior deputy coroner Kent Dill, Victoria was a foster child living in the couple's residence, reported news outlet People.
"Police officers handle all kinds of cases, and this kind can be the hardest for them to do," Simpsonville Police Spokesman Justin Campbell told the media outlet.
"It is a sad day. You bring charges and maybe convictions, but at the end of the day, the life of a child was taken. For anyone who knew the victim or was related to the victim, they are in our thoughts and prayers,” Campbell added.
The couple appeared before the court Tuesday and was denied bail. They are now being held at Greenville county detention center.
Earlier, after winning season 20 of the show in August, Ariel had said in subsequent interviews that she is a mother of five, reported local news outlet TMZ.
Homicide by child abuse is a felony charge, which allows a person convicted or if pleads guilty to be sentenced to life or for 20 years in prison. According to a study, a total of 656,243 cases of child abuse were reported in the U.S. in 2019.
