Would Prince Charles, Diana’s Marriage Have Lasted If Camilla Hadn’t Been Around?
Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce was finalized in 1996. Years later, the future King decided to tie the knot with the love of his life, Camilla Parker Bowles, in a civil ceremony.
On the online forum site Quora, royal fans are wondering whether or not Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage would have lasted if Camilla wasn’t around. After all, Prince Charles started his affair with the Duchess of Cornwall while he was still married to Princess Diana.
Eileen Wood, a real estate assistant, said that even if Camilla and Prince Charles didn’t have an affair, it would be impossible for the heir to the throne to still be with Princess Diana today.
Wood discussed several other factors why the Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage wouldn’t have lasted. The royal fan said that the age difference between the two royals would have been a factor why their marriage wouldn’t last.
“Charles was a little bit country; Diana was a little bit rock and roll. He was ready to sit back at his country home, pottering around in his experimental garden… Diana was young and wanted to get out and party… The last thing she wanted to do was sit home with that old fuddy-daddy,” she said.
Jade Worthington, a social worker, said that Camilla couldn’t be airbrushed from the picture because she was the one that occupied Prince Charles’ heart.
“Camilla was in the picture a decade before Charles’ marriage to Diana, 15 years throughout that marriage and 23 post-that marriage. For nearly 50 years, Charles’ heart has laid with Camilla… Diana was never to be anything more than a breeding mare for Charles,” she said.
Susan C. Weber also said that Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage wouldn’t have lasted even if Camilla wasn’t around. The royal fan said that if it weren’t Camilla, Prince Charles would most likely have an affair with someone else.
