A WWE superstar just helped another man outside any other charitable advertisements he’s been part of just recently – this time, people won’t be able to say that nobody saw him.

Multiple-time WWE champion John Cena added another good deed on his long list of accomplishments as he paid for a retired veteran’s grocery bills out of his own pocket. The news was later shared on Reddit by who appears to be a relative of the man that Cena helped, with a caption that says “John Cena paid for my uncle’s groceries!” along with a selfie of the two.

The news was later posted on Entertainment Tonight and the man was identified as Charles Phillips, a retired Vietnam veteran. The encounter happened when Charles, known as “Bud”, was at Publix in Land O’Lakes, FL at the checkout line.

“My dad is a retired Vietnam veteran (and) a widow. We lost my mom five years ago unexpectedly (after) they were married almost 50 years,” Bud’s daughter Stephanie Phillips shared with ET. She also added that he didn’t see her father smile the way he did on his selfie with the 43-year old wrestling superstar.

“That’s what so special about this moment. A simple act of kindness brightened his day. Along with his family seeing that smile on his face!”

“My dad was behind him in the checkout line. They were chatting and John thanked my dad for his service (after) seeing his SeaBees hat,” she revealed. She added that the Hollywood star didn’t even tell them that he will be paying for their grocery bills as he paid the goods secretly.

“My dad didn’t even know until he was being checked out and the cashier said, ‘John paid for your groceries.’ The bill was around $100.”

Cena has been getting praise from fans for his gesture. “Thanks, John Cena for not only being a great wrestler but even more a very thoughtful and generous person beyond wrestling,” says one fan on Instagram.

“John Cena is a true hero! God bless the man,” said another user.

“That’s awesome _ that you paid for a Vets groceries. As a fellow Vet myself I salute you, sir!”

Cena is set to face “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania 36 in a closed-door event as part of the coronavirus prevention.
