KEY POINTS

  • The Undertaker is a four-time WWE/WWF champion
  • In Dec. 2014, Vince McMahon confirmed Brock Lesnar would soon end Undertaker's streak
  • Kane and The Undertaker are on-screen brothers in WWE story

The Undertaker, one of the legendary characters in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), has always been a mysterious face. While he was a regular figure in the WWE, he hardly revealed his opinion or gave out personal information during interviews.

Unlike his character, the 54-year-old recently gave out interviews and opened up on details of his ring and off-the-ring life. His most recent interview came with Stone Cold Steve Austin on the latter’s show Broen Skull Sessions on the WWE Network.

Meanwhile, other WWE superstar, Kane – who is Undertaker’s on-screen brother – has admitted that he had “mixed feelings” on The Undertaker going out of character.

Speaking to Corey Graves on "After The Bell", Kane said, "Well, I think like everyone I have mixed feelings about it. I think overall it’s good. We’re people, and we portray a character. And I think everybody knows that, of course. And I think sometimes that that was taken so seriously that it was almost comic, right? Just, everybody knows that we’re characters on TV.”

Talking further about characters like Kane and Undertaker, Kane, who is now the mayor of Knox County under his real name Glen Jacobs, added, "And the great thing about a character like The Undertaker, or hopefully about Kane, is when the character comes back out people believe in the character.”

The Big Red Machine suggested that it is a good idea that someone like Undertaker has opened up and has decided to impart the wisdom he has accumulated over his decorated career.

“I think that a guy like Mark opening up and talking about all of these different things, I mean, gosh what a perspective that guy has, right? And what knowledge and he’s been there for everything and knows more about than almost anybody else. And he’s a great guy, he’s a really cool dude. So to see him be able to do stuff like that, I think it is refreshing,” Kane added.

Kane also spoke about social media influence in recent times. He said while there are benefits to being able to connect with the fans both in character and with his political career, there also are disadvantages at the same time for WWE, especially.

“I hate it when people come out [with] spoilers and all that stuff. Because part of the allure of the WWE business is the fact that we’re out there throwing twists and turns, and trying to keep people guessing as to what’s coming next,” Kane spoke further.
