WWE News: Media Personality Feels Big E's Title Run Was Mismanaged
KEY POINTS
- Peter Rosenberg believes the company mishandled Big E's run with the WWE Championship
- Big E lost cleanly to multiple opponents in non-title matches, which cheapened his reign
- His potential as a singles star while being a member of the New Day is too big to ignore
Big E winning the WWE Championship back in September 2021 was a moment that many fans would not forget, but many believe that the title change could have been better executed, including Peter Rosenberg.
The on-screen personality--who usually appears on WWE programming during their pay-per-views--detailed his disappointment in how the company handled Big E’s massive moment and his subsequent title reign.
“I admitted this to him [Big E], ‘I was in this awkward position of when you won the title, everyone was so hyped up, and I didn’t like the way you got it. I didn’t think it made sense. I thought it was really rushed,’ “said Rosenberg on the Throwing Down with Renee and Miesha podcast.
“When someone wins a title, they [wrestling fans] think that’s the only thing that matters. But how they get the title, and what happens once they have the title, is more important for their long-term story.”
Rosenberg is not one to shy away from making his thoughts public, as seen in his feud with artist Nicki Minaj in 2012, and his criticism of Big E’s title reigns has merit.
Big E dropped the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar on the Day 1 pay-per-view this past January, ending his reign at just 122 days.
In that span, Big E lost to guys like WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins, pinning him cleanly multiple times on different occasions.
It certainly left a sour taste in the mouth of many fans who had been hoping that the top-tier wrestling promotion would be giving Big E a major push up the card, away from his association with the New Day.
Allowing Big E to blossom into a major star based on his own merit would have been a breath of fresh air since his mic work has already been proven, while he can virtually be matched up with anyone on the roster.
Nowadays, Big E has been reunited with Kofi Kingston on the SmackDown brand and is currently mixing it up with Los Lotharios (Humberto & Angel) since failing to win the men’s Royal Rumble match.
Teaming up with his New Day stablemate will almost assuredly help in keeping him on WWE programming, while King of the Ring winner Xavier Woods remains on the sidelines due to a torn plantaris.
There is hope that WWE will be brewing something up for him in the meantime as fans are still in full support of him.
