KEY POINTS

  • Drew Gulak makes a surprising return to Twitch and thanks "Papa H"
  • WWE established a ban on third-party platforms in 2020
  • This change could see WWE performers potentially return to their online communities

A lot of things have changed since Triple H took creative control of WWE following Vince McMahon's retirement, and another could be coming on the horizon involving third-party sites such as Twitch.

In a now-deleted tweet, Gulak revealed that he would be streaming on Twitch once again and curiously thanked "Papa H."

The shoutout to Triple H certainly drew attention which may have led to its deletion, but it is worth noting that many WWE performers were either released or left the company when their contracts expired because of it.

In a 2020 exclusive by Wrestling Inc, they reported that performers who participated or were affiliated with third-party streaming sites would be handed punishments as disciplinary actions.

"Some of you are engaged with outside third parties using your name and likeness in ways that are detrimental to our company. It is imperative that these activities be terminated within the next 30 days (by Friday October 2). Continued violations will result in fines, suspension, or termination at WWE's discretion," wrote McMahon in a letter obtained by the outlet.

Inaugural Queen's Crown tournament winner Zelina Vega was released from her contract in November 2020 as she opposed the company's crackdown on third-party platforms as confirmed by Pro Wrestling Insider.

Vega then returned to WWE on July 2, 2021, but with her Twitch being purged of past content other than real-life partner Malakai Black (Aleister Black in WWE) taking control of it for a while.

Another notable talent who decided to leave WWE because he was not willing to let go of his Twitch was former NXT Champion Adam Cole.

Just a few weeks before he made his unforgettable debut at All Elite Wrestling's (AEW) "All Out" pay-per-view, Cole reiterated his love for the community that he had built up on Twitch and said that "there is a zero chance that this channel is ever going away".

With Gulak's revelation, it can be inferred that more and more performers are going to be given more leeway in terms of content production outside of the company, which could also entice other performers to return.

It was reported earlier in the month that "The Game" handed more creative freedom to his performers, which greatly upped the match quality on the promotion's weekly Raw and SmackDown shows.

Fans have been praising Triple H for his body of work as the main showrunner, and it could extend outside of the wrestling ring in a few weeks as potentially more performers will be able to return to their online communities without fear of being punished.
