KEY POINTS

  • Drew McIntyre is the current WWE Champion
  • The journey to the top of the company McIntyre had to endure wasn't easy
  • Rumors are circulating that Bobby Lashley may defeat McIntyre for the WWE title

It has been a tremendous run for current WWE champion Drew McIntyre in the past few years. As the current champion of the Raw brand, the rumors of him dropping the title has grown stronger and stronger.

The career McIntyre has had in WWE wasn’t as smooth as most superstars today. The master of the claymore kick was overhyped in his first few years in the industry that led to disappointing results. This pushed him down to poor booking and relatively weak gimmicks that did not benefit the big man’s career.

This forced McIntyre to persevere, travel the world, jump from different brands and work on himself to get to this point. With the sacrifices he has made in the past decade paying off, McIntyre won the WWE Championship when he defeated Brock Lesnar clean in the middle of the ring.

From going through questionable match bookings to powering through the Royal Rumble, McIntyre was able to complete a legendary stretch that emphasized not taking anything for granted.

While he’s enjoying a strong reign so far, there have been speculations brewing that he might drop the title soon. The pay-per-view Backlash is coming up with a title defense against Bobby Lashley. Per Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda, Lashley may come up victorious against McIntyre in the upcoming event.

“There is a large amount of speculation at the moment that Bobby Lashley may be coming out of his feud with Drew McIntyre as the new WWE Champion,” Colohue said.

This doesn’t take anything away from McIntyre, as he remains to be one of the more dominant players in the roster.

“This is something that I won't be totally against seeing. Drew McIntyre as a face is very good chasing a Championship. Also, he has defeated a lot of the RAW roster,” Colohue added.

It will be interesting to see how the storyline pans out of McIntyre and if they will continue with is reign as the champion of the Raw brand.

The WWE has continued airing weekly episodes despite the onset of the global pandemic. Matches are all performed in their performance center and have only limited the audience to employees and trainees of the company.
