KEY POINTS

  • Goldberg defends the WWE Universal title against Roman Reigns
  • Reigns a heavy favorite to regain the Universal title at Wrestlemania 36
  • Wrestlemania 36 has three heavy clashes set already

Bill Goldberg is the WWE Universal champion once more after defeating Bray Wyatt, aka The Fiend, at WWE Super Showdown recently. The win hardly came as a surprise to many though seeing the 53-year-old as champion once more is likely short-term. And based on what happened at the recent episode of WWE SmackDown, it appears that is the case.

It did not take long for Goldberg to indirectly issue a challenge with his patented "Who's Next" line. And while there were a lot of worthy challengers, the one who came out of the locker room was hardly a surprise. It was no other than Roman Reigns, the former Universal Champion who was forced to relinquish the title due to Leukemia.

There were no frills and much talk with both Goldberg and Reigns staring down each other at the Feb. 28 episode of WWE SmackDown. It is a dream match that most will certainly want to see although it clearly sets the stage for the Roman Empire to win back the title he never officially lost. The chances of Goldberg winning are not that high, most aware that he is simply appearing on short-term stints.

Both WWE stars will clash at Wrestlemania 36 which takes place at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on April 5. That is just weeks away, one of many blockbuster cards that the WWE creative team has in store. Reigns and Goldberg are likely to add more drama in the remaining weeks although there are other cards worth watching too.

One is Wyatt who has now diverted his attention to a returning John Cena. Though there is no title on the line, expect the psyche war to take a feverish pitch. This should make their Wrestlemania 36 showdown something to watch, particularly the storylines.

Aside from that, there is the other WWE heavyweight title to check out. Brock Lesnar defends his title against Drew McIntyre, the 2020 WWE Royal Rumble winner. With the Scottish Psychopath obviously getting a career boost, all signs point to a win. Further, the fact that Wrestlemania 36 will be held in his hometown also indicates a grand celebration once the match is over.

As of this writing, the only other match confirmed for Wrestlemania 36 is the one between WWE NXT champion Rhea Ripley facing Charlotte Flair. More matches are expected to be set in the coming weeks with plenty of WWE stars tied up to different storylines.
