World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar Asuka narrowly escaped injuries after she was caught in the middle of a shopping mall shooting.
The current women’s tag team champion, who holds the title with her partner Kairi Sane, took to social media to reveal that she was present at the Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas on Tuesday evening when gunshots were fired. She took cover inside a Guess store.
“I just escaped! There was a scream in front of me at #FashionShowMall. ‘It was like shooting. #GUESS near the shooting range protected me… I heard screams from outside the door several times after fleeing to GUESS,” Asuka wrote on her official Twitter account.
Soon after she posted the tweet, she was flooded with messages from her fans and co-workers.
WWE Backstage host Renee Young tweeted to Asuka, "Stay safe! That’s horrifying!”
NXT star Killian Dane, who is married to Asuka’s fellow SmackDown wrestler Nikki Cross, said, “Glad you are OK!!!!’
Asuka will take on Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble show in Houston on Sunday.
The shooting incident reportedly started because of a fight between two gangs of juveniles, with one of them then opening fire.
“‘This was not an active shooter. This was an isolated incident,” a spokesman for the Las Vegas police department said.
Local reports also stated that while the investigation was still underway, the officers found at least three victims who had suffered "apparent gunshot injuries" but were not life-threatening.
The suspects reportedly escaped from the spot. The Nevada Highway Patrol tweeted soon after the incident occurred, declaring that all of the off-ramps from the I-15 eastbound to Spring Mountain Road were closed due to police activity, and asked the civilians to avoid the area.
