WWE Survivor Series: Becky Lynch Welcomes Conor McGregor Comparison After Rousey Spat
WWE SmackDown women’s champion Becky Lynch has no problem being compared to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bad boy Conor McGregor. The professional wrestler feels it is because they are both the faces of their respective franchises and that they hail from Ireland.
Lynch, who refers to herself as “The Man,” after beating Charlotte Flair to the women’s title in September is probably the most spoken about WWE star at the moment.
The Irish professional wrestler has displayed a new level of aggression inside and outside the ring in recent months — and she took it to a new level on Monday when she led the SmackDown women’s roster on an attack on their Raw women counterparts.
Lynch has developed a fierce rivalry with former UFC women’s bantam weight champion and current Raw women’s champion Ronda Rousey. They were meant to face each other in Sunday’s Survivor Series pay-per-view event, but the melee in the ring on Monday saw the former break her nose following a brutal punch from Nia Jax.
Their spat from Monday spilled on to social media with both wrestlers not holding back while throwing insults at each other. Lynch’s actions in recent months have led to comparisons with McGregor, who is also known for his no holds barred behavior be it in the octagon or outside.
And the Irish woman believes it is because both of them are blessed with the “gift of the gab” and that both of are represented as the face of their respective industries. However, Lynch made it clear that despite the comparisons, her behavior is not influenced by anyone.
"I think it's because we're both from Ireland, we both run our mouths a lot and we both back it up," Lynch told Sky Sports. "There's something about the Irish maybe. We have the gift of the gab and I've got the gift and the gab.”
"He's a star and he's the face of the fight game. I'm the face of WWE whether anyone wants to admit it or not, I am the face of WWE.
"I'm the most talked about in my industry and he's the most talked about in his industry so I guess that's a good comparison,” the Irish professional wrestler explained. “This is just me, this is how I feel. I've been compared to some people but this is all me, they haven't necessarily been my influences.
"This is how I feel, this is what I want and this is what I'm taking."
Lynch’s unavailability for Survivor Series kind of put a dampener on the much-hyped clash between her and Rousey. However, according to reports, WWE is planning to ensure the duo come face-to-face in their flagship pay-per-view WrestleMania in 2019.
