‘The X-Files’ Spoilers: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson Tease Mulder, Scully’s Son William
“The X-Files” stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson confirmed that viewers are going to see Mulder and Scully’s son William in Season 11 of the Fox series.
Anderson told TVLine that the actor who was cast to play William “looks like a normal kid,” but Duchovny revealed that William doesn’t resemble any of his parents. “He resembles two people that aren’t Mulder (Duchovny) and Scully (Anderson). And when you read this back [after watching the episodes] you’ll figure this out,” the actor said.
The official trailer for Season 11 revealed that the search for William is a huge part of the new season. “You have to find him and you have to stop him before he releases hell on Earth,” Scully, who is seemingly referring to their long lost son, whispers to Mulder from her hospital bed.
Although the series took a long time before putting the limelight back to William, series creator Chris Carter told Deadline that the character has always been part of the show. “He’s been the absent center but I have to say that that storyline is explored further,” Carter said.
During the show’s panel at the New York Comic Con earlier this month, series creator Chris Carter said that Season 11 will explore the relationship between father, mother and son. “You’ll see more of William than you’ve seen in a long time,” Carter said (via Entertainment Weekly).
At some point during the panel, Anderson suggested that William has got “David’s height,” while Carter joked that Scully and Mulder’s son is with Langly (Dean Haglund), the presumed-dead member of the Lone Gunmen trio seen in the trailer.
“It’s Langly… but it may not be Langly,” Carter told TVLine when asked if the version of Langly featured in the trailer is the Langly fans knew from the original run of the sci-fi series. “We’re not sure how he has manifested. We’re playing with that in a new and different way than we did with [The Lone Gunmen’s] return last season.”
As fans remember, Langly died in Season 9, but re-appeared in Season 10 in a drug-fueled dream sequence.
“The X-Files” Season 11 is slated to premiere midseason on Fox.
