Leaked images showing references to the rumored Xbox Series S or Lockhart are making rounds online. The Redmond-based tech giant Microsoft has not yet confirmed the existence of the heavily speculated version of the Xbox Series X. Interestingly, a new report surfaced, revealing more details on the RAM and GPU power of the Xbox Series S or Lockhart.
The latest set of information about the Xbox Series S or Lockhart comes from The Verge. The publication claims that the devkit of Xbox Series X, which is codenamed Dante, has a particular Xbox Series S or Lockhart profile. The said devkit enables game developers to activate a special Lockhart mode with a profile of the performance that the Redmond tech giant would like to achieve.
The publication cites sources familiar with Microsoft’s Xbox plans as the source of information. It adds that the Lockhart profile bears the specs of the rumored, more affordable version of the premium gaming console. It includes 7.5 GB usable RAM, 4 teraflops of GPU and a “slightly overclocked CPU speed.”
The Lockhart mode could help game developers validate checks and test their games against the performance profile. The site also notes that the Redmond tech giant is anticipated to program the rumored Xbox Series S or Lockhart with 1080p or 1440p gaming. These are the most popular resolutions that the majority of PC gaming monitors used, the site adds.
The Verge’s Tom Warren also tweeted about the Xbox Series s or Lockhart’s pricing. He noted that cheaper does not mean cheap after a Twitter user said that he would buy one to go with his PS5. It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that the industry has seen leaks related to the rumored Xbox Series S or Lockhart.
A few days ago, a data miner shared on Twitter several screenshots showing references to Lockhart. Meanwhile, both Microsoft and Sony have not yet revealed the price of their next generation gaming consoles. The gaming console royalties earlier announced that the Xbox Series X and the PS5 will arrive sometime in the holiday of 2020.
