  • Microsoft launched Xbox Series X gaming console
  • It is the most powerful Xbox to date
  • It will support 4K gaming at 60 frames per second

Microsoft has launched its much-awaited gaming console, the Xbox Series X at the ongoing Game Awards. The device, which was known as Project Scarlett to date, is the next-generation gaming device and looks like a PC tower.

The new iteration of the device will have four times the processing power of the Xbox One. The company claims that despite the processing power, it won’t be noisy – it will generate the same amount of noise as the Xbox One.

“Xbox Series X will be our fastest, most powerful console ever and set a new bar for performance, speed and compatibility, allowing you to bring your gaming legacy, thousands of games from three generations and more forward with you,” Xbox head Phil Spencer stated in a press release on the launch Thursday.

Here are some of the features of the device:

Less-Noise Operation: Despite having four times the processing power of the Xbox One X, Microsoft claims that the new gaming console will have the same noise levels as the previous iteration. It will have a single fan that pushes air to the top.

New Wireless Controller: The new gaming console will have a redesigned peripheral, which will make it more comfortable for a variety of people. It will have an advanced D-pad similar to the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless controller and a Share button, which will make sharing the screenshots and game clips on social media easy. The controller will be compatible with both the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

Orientation Support: The device will support both horizontal and vertical orientation.

Disc-Compatibility and Support for Xbox One Games: Microsoft states that the gaming console will have ‘backward compatibility’ – it will support most Xbox One games across four generations of gaming and also support Xbox One discs and gaming accessories. Services such as the Xbox Game Pass will also be available to the console users.

4K/8K Support: The console will support 4K gaming at 60fps with the possibility of support 120 fps in the future. Microsoft hasn’t revealed the GPU used in the console but has stated that it will support variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and 8K capabilities.

It’s custom-designed Zen 2 and AMD RDNA processor architecture will generate the processing power needed for these graphics.

The device will be launched during the holiday season next year.
