There is a new tactical combat game coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch, according to a leak from PEGI, a rating board that rates games for release in Europe. The game said to be coming to the consoles is “XCOM: Chimera Squad,” a surprise revelation considering 2K Games has yet to make an official announcement.
PEGI gave “XCOM: Chimera Squad” an official rating for the PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One on Friday, Final Weapon.net reported. It should be noted that when PEGI gives a rating, this normally signals that a game is nearing its release, though there are exceptions for some titles.
It is also worth noting that it has been rated for only three game consoles. There is no word if the sequel to “XCOM 2” will be released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in the future. An official release date has yet to be announced as well.
For those who may be hearing about “XCOM: Chimera Squad” for the first time, the title offers a different kind of story and a turn-based tactical combat experience in the “XCOM” universe, according to an overview from Steam. Check out the trailer below.
“XCOM: Chimera Squad” is a tactical spin-off that released on the PC in April 2020. So far, it has gotten positive reviews.
According to Eurogamer, this version is a lot more approachable compared to its predecessor, “XCOM 2.” It is more direct and less expansive but also a little less troublesome for players to try out. It was branded as something different, described as characterful and sharp-edged and surprisingly came with an interesting and rich side quest.
“XCOM: Chimera Squad” will pick up five years after alien rule, with humans winning the war of the Earth. This time around, both aliens and humans are working together to create a new civilization – resulting in City 31.
However, the alliance is something that not all inhabitants of Earth are supporting. Thus, it will be up to the Chimera Squad, a group comprising an elite mix of aliens and humans, to work together and destroy the impending threats that aim to create chaos in the city.
