'You' Star Penn Badgley's Wife Makes Announcement After 'Two Miscarriages In A Row'
Domino Kirke-Badgley announced that she and husband Penn Badgley are expecting a child after suffering two devastating losses in a row. The wife of the "You" star shared an Instagram photo of her growing baby bump on Monday.
“On the road again... pregnancy after loss is [a] whole other thing,” the musician wrote. “After two miscarriages in a row, we were ready to call it. I stopped trusting my body and started to accept the fact that I was done.”
Domino went on to build a connection between her work at Carriage House Birth, a doula agency that she co-founded, and her motherhood journey.
“As a birth attendant, I’ve seen and heard it all,” she explained. “It takes everything I’ve got to detach lovingly from the losses I’ve been present for and be in my own experience.”
The 36-year-old also discussed her growth as a mom since she birthed her first son, Cassius Riley, whom she shares with musician Morgan O’Kane.
“When I was pregnant at 25, I knew nothing,” she recalled. “I had no community. I dove in blissfully unaware about birth and its mysteries. Now, with 10 years worth of experience to pull from, I treasure my birth community and the knowledge I have. You’re already teaching us how to stay in the day in a way we’ve never had to, little one. Thank you.”
In 2019, Domino shared an Instagram post explaining how her first pregnancy, as well as feelings of loneliness, led her to become a doula.
“My relationship with my midwife hasn’t been an easy one, because I didn’t agree with the some of the decisions she made around my care,” Kirke-Badgley recalled. “I had a great team, I had the care, but I still felt so alone and unseen. Later in life I realized that that’s how I felt in the world at that time. That’s how I felt growing up. I attracted the very same energies I was used to being around. I have since attended births as a doula with my midwife. We’ve come full circle.”
Sometime after Cassius’ birth in 2009, the single mom met Badgley.
As People reports, the “Gossip Girl” star, 33, and Domino began dating in 2014 before tying the knot at a courthouse in February 2017. In a 2018 interview, Penn spoke about the couple’s “divine love.”
“I don’t think I could truly value human love until I developed divine love,” he said. “[Domino and I] very much had a romantic beginning, and I think that you discover in marriage that what sustains a marriage for decades — there are less and less people who can tell us this — but I think it has something to do with [divine] love.”
