YouTube Brings Line-Art Icons On Mobile Phones To Web Homepage
KEY POINTS
- YouTube web version now features the outlines style icons
- The update took effect March 22
- Viewers can now experience a cleaner more strategic view of the YouTube web counterpart
There's no doubt that YouTube, the world's largest visual platform, is continually looking for ways to improve its interface. The shiny new addition to the platform is an array of line art icons, originally seen on Android and iPhone smartphone applications.
The outline style icons will replace the existing YouTube web interface design, 9to5 Google reported. The new YouTube user web experience officially started Monday and it means viewers will soon view a similar environment as seen on their mobile apps. However, as with all Google interface shifts, it might take a while for it to roll out to everyone.
YouTube first introduced the outline style icons on its apps for iPhones and Android devices in October and November of last year. The new YouTube web homepage now opens with the new line art icons strategically positioned on the left side-rail and navigation drawer. Options such as Home, Explore, Subscriptions, Originals, Library and more can now be found on the left pane.
According to Tech Times, the latest innovation brings in a cleaner appearance to the well-loved video-sharing app. The update bids farewell to YouTube’s web homepage’s sans-serif family basic font style. The new interface showcases minimalist fonts and icons.
The interface shift has also removed the thick sidebar on the screen, giving a clearer view of slimmer fonts and icons. However, the outlines on the YouTube web homepage differ from its mobile counterpart when it comes to how it fits the screen.
Unlike the mobile version, the outlines on the web implementation are never filled upon viewing a specific page. Instead, the viewed tab is slightly brighter than the others.
For easier access, icons such as video upload, voice search, notifications and app switcher are placed beside the search bar on top.
Android Police says the new icons came along with the interface change that Google did on some of its services such as Messages and Gmail.
Meanwhile, although 9to5 Google claims that YouTube Music was spotted in testing, there is still no confirmation on its update yet.
