KEY POINTS

  • Nate Robinson may have a surprise for YouTuber Paul Jake
  • Jake shows off footage of impressive sparring session
  • Robinson could care less about being the underdog against Jake

Former NBA player Nate Robinson is looking forward to facing internet personality Paul Jake on Nov. 28.

Both will clash in one of the undercard bouts of the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. main event.

Compared to Paul, Robinson has no fight experience. Hence, he will rely on the competitive fire that rages from within to hold his ground against the 23-year-old who has made a living on video-streaming platform YouTube.

Robinson knows that the odds are against him in this one. Rather than worry about it, the 36-year-old has no qualms about being the underdog.

In an interview with ESPN, Robinson hopes to buck the odds in the same way he did when he was still playing NBA ball.

“They don’t believe in me, and that’s cool. I told them, ‘S—, people didn’t believe I could make it to the NBA. People didn’t believe I’d be able to score 40 points in a game, to average 18 as a 5-foot-9 point guard playing with the Knicks. Nobody thought I was going to win three dunk contests,’" he said.

It would be indeed foolish to write Robinson off. Paul is not exactly a seasoned fighter, but he did show what he can do last January.

As mentioned in a previous post, Paul faced fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib at that time and came out victorious in the first-round via stoppage. He dropped his opponent twice in that only round.

Aside from being known to take risks, Paul hyped up his match after showing footage of a recent sparring session.

He showed off some devastating blows in what could be a way to taunt Robinson for their upcoming clash.

Like Paul, the three-time NBA champion has been known to take risks. Much of that can be seen in the stunts he did during his pro basketball tenure.

The mystery behind Robinson’s preparation could also work to the former NBA guard’s advantage. So the better question now is will that be enough to get the job done against Paul? The answer to that should come on Nov. 28.
