Zinedine Zidane’s Goalkeeper For Real Madrid Linked To Suit Up For Chelsea
KEY POINTS
- The defensive effort of Real Madrid helped the club win the latest La Liga title
- Real Madrid's Alphonse Areola is linked to suit up for Chelsea
- As a goalkeeper Areola played as a backup for Thibaut Courtois
The dominance of Real Madrid in this year’s La Liga can be linked to their elite scoring abilities and outstanding defense. While Thibaut Courtois anchored the team as the main goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola suited up as a trusty backup. It is now speculated that Chelsea eyes the French professional.
Several signs have indicated that Areola will leave the club. One of these includes an Instagram post of his wife with a new house in London. The photo includes Areola with his wife and children posing in front of the new home.
Per The Real Champs, another sign that speculates Areola moving to a different team is his time spent on the bench. With only nine appearances for the team, the 27-year-old was seen used as a utility backup for the squad. The more heavily used player that Zinedine Zidane took advantage of was Courtois who is slated to win this year’s Zamora trophy.
But the lack of playing time doesn’t downplay the skills and winning capabilities of Areola. The former World Cup winner has had great stretches throughout his career with different clubs. One of his more noteworthy stints was with Paris Saint-Germain where he suited up for 107 appearances and tallied 53 clean sheets.
With talks of moving to Chelsea, Areola can reinvent himself with a different environment. Considering he was still part of the champion Real Madrid team, his presence to Frank Lampard’s squad may add more depth to their lineup. The experience Areola has can assist Kepa Arrizabalaga on and off the pitch.
Given that Real Madrid reigns supreme over all of Spain, more pressure is set for the club moving forward. Players such as Andriy Lunin are expected to step up with how things are going well for Los Blancos.
The consistent performance of Karim Benzema and Courtois helped Zidane notch his 11th trophy for the club. The cerebral and tactical approach of Zidane coupled with his team’s trusty roster of stars puts Los Blancos in a position to dominate in years to come. It will be interesting to see how Real Madrid will play in the coming seasons and how their goalkeeper rotation will look like.
