It’s been a long time since “Bones” aired on Fox. Fortunately, the network has announced the premiere date of its twelfth and final season in a recent press release. “Bones” Season 12 will debut its final chapter on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 9 to 10 p.m. EDT. Which means that the long-running crime procedural has been moved from its Thursday night time slot to Tuesday nights.

The final season will see the series come to a close with the stories of FBI Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and the Jeffersonian-FBI team ending. The final 12 episodes will also allow fans to say goodbye to their favorite characters.

“Bones” teased the return of some old characters, such as Brennan’s former love interest Sully (Eddie McClintock), a wedding between Dr. Camille “Cam” Saroyan (Tamara Taylor) and Arastoo (Pej Vahdat) and an epic serial killer storyline. The search for The Puppeteer will also come to a head.

Furthermore, no season of “Bones” would be complete without a fun undercover mission. Season 12 will see the team go undercover in a lumberjack competition. Unfortunately, Booth and Brennan’s marriage will once again be put to the test but we have a feeling that they will emerge stronger and closer than ever.

Of course, the Fox series will show the Jeffersonian solve a string of grisly murders.

“From the very first season, ‘Bones’ was called ‘The Little Engine That Could.’ So we could not be prouder of ending up as FOX’s longest-running scripted drama,” creator and executive producer of the show, Hart Hanson, said in a statement. “And we got there because of an insanely loyal, loud, lovely, lively audience.”

Last season ended with Brennan being taken as a hostage by none other than her former squintern, Zack Addy (Eric Millegan).
