A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a Nebraska Sonic drive-in restaurant that left at least two people dead and another two injured, authorities said.
Authorities were alerted on Nov. 21 at around 9.23 p.m. ET about a possible bomb inside a moving truck in the restaurant's parking lot. A minute later, a second call informed the officers about a shooting at the restaurant located at 1307 Cornhusker Road, the City of Bellevue Police Department said in a news release Sunday.
Upon responding, police found at least four victims with gunshot wounds, two of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. The injured were transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center for treatment.
Police said in the statement that they have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting. The City of Bellevue Police Department Lt. Andy Janishke later identified the suspect as Roberto Carlos Silva Jr., 23. Silva is facing two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree arson charges.
Three firearms were recovered at the time of Silva's arrest. The said weapons were later logged as evidence. However, it wasn't clear if any of those firearms were used in the shooting. Silva was booked at Sarpy County Jail, according to the statement. The motive of the shooting was unknown.
On Nov. 17, Silva was arrested for allegedly using someone else's Sonic app to order food from the restaurant where the shooting took place, police said in the press release.
In a follow-up statement, Janishke identified the deceased individuals as Nathan Pastrana, 22, and Ryan Helbert, 28, both employees of the restaurant. The injured individuals also work at the establishment. They were identified as Zoey Reece Atalig Lujan, 18, and Kenneth Gerner, 25.
Janishke told reporters that the U-Haul truck caught fire due to fireworks or a "device," as per Omaha World-Herald. The Omaha Police Bomb Squad also responded to the scene to check on the said device.
"We are stunned and saddened by what occurred at the Bellevue, NE, SONIC Saturday night. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the franchise owner and the families and friends impacted by this horrific tragedy," a Sonic spokesperson said in a statement cited by NBC News. "The franchisee is working with law enforcement as they investigate the matter."
