A man in Egypt has been accused of killing his 3-year-old daughter for opening the refrigerator without his permission, media reports said Sunday.

The father reportedly tortured his daughter by setting fire to parts of her body, the police records revealed, according to Gulf News. The man also severely beat up the child.

The accused's wife, who is the victim's stepmother, admitted her husband physically assaulted his daughter as punishment. The accused and the victim's stepmother have been married for several months after he left his first wife and took their child to live with him, Roya News reported. The identity of the accused has not been revealed.

The accused was taken into custody and, during questioning, he admitted to torturing and beating his daughter to a point where she became unconscious. He then took her to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

The charges placed against the accused have not been revealed. The police did not reveal where the child's birth mother lived at present and if she was aware of the incident.

An autopsy of the child would reveal the exact cause of death. An investigation is underway into the murder.

Last month, a Texas man was sentenced to prison after he admitted to killing his infant son by tossing him in the air. The man admitted he killed his child as he was frustrated by his crying. The 23-year-old father from Ector county said he has "extreme anger issues." Before killing his son, he had strangled two dogs to death. Kameron Gammage was sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years for murdering his 7-month-old son, Logan Gammage, on July 12. He pleaded guilty to one count each of murder of an individual under 10 years of age and injury to a child. On the day of the tragedy, emergency officers responded to Kameron's residence. When they arrived, they found the infant's face and head had "heavy" bruising and swelling. Kameron admitted he had tossed the child in the air several times after he was woken up by his cries. He caught the child after each toss, but "accidentally" dropped him the fourth time.
