6 Royal Romance Books To Read After Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s Engagement

The announcement of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s engagement on Monday was the news people everywhere were waiting to hear.

Their tale is the kind of story romance books are written about, which is why reading those books is a perfect way to celebrate the occasion. Especially now that this engagement is proof that these books can come true. Plus, it’ll help hold everyone over until the wedding next year.

We all know and love Meg Cabot’s “The Princess Diaries” series, but if you’ve already read it plenty of times and want to change it up a little, here are some other royal stories, which happen to be a bit heavier on the romance, which happen to be perfect to devour.

“The Royal We” by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan

The Fug Girls, Cocks and Morgan, who own and run the blog Go Fug Yourself, wrote this novel, which was loosely based on Prince William and Kate Middleton’s early relationship.

Often cited as a more grown-up version of “The Princess Diaries,” this novel takes a look at a woman named Samantha, who’s working on getting her master’s degree and caring for her sick father when she finds out that she’s an heiress to a large estate in the small country of Lilaria.

She’s immediately thrust into the world of politics and royalty, but luckily, she has the crown prince, Alex, to help show her the way.

“Royal Affair” by Parker Swift

There’s nothing wrong with keeping a relationship or, more accurately, a continuous hook-up a secret. Especially if it’s with a British royal.

At least, that’s what Lydia thinks as she begins a casual fling with a future duke.

But, what happens when her feelings start to grow for him? Will he feel the same or will he cast her aside? Is there any place in the world of royalty for a woman like her?

“Royal Scandal” by Marquita Valentine

The first in the “Royals in Exile” series, this book follows as a prince is forced to flee to the United States with his siblings after their parents were murdered.

After years of hiding, people begin to find out the truth and Parliament demands that Prince Colin marries someone of their choosing.
