Six teenagers, all aged 16 or 17, were taken into custody Sunday in connection with the death of a 35-year-old man in England.

Medics and the police responded to a scene in Cramlington in the early hours of Saturday morning and found the 35-year-old unidentified man with severe head injuries. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries Sunday, Evening Standard reported.

A murder probe was launched, and the six unidentified teenagers were taken into custody on suspicion of murder.

"First and foremost are thoughts are with the family of the man who has sadly lost his life as a result of this tragic incident. We have specialist family liaison officers who are supporting them at this devastating time and I would ask that the family’s privacy is respected as they come to terms with their loss," Northumbria Police Detective Inspector Joanne Brooks said, Northern Echo reported.

Brooks said an investigation into the incident was ongoing, and asked anyone who witnessed the assault to contact them immediately.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what has happened and how the victim, in this case, has ultimately lost his life. A team of detectives are now working to establish the facts and we’d encourage any witnesses to come forward. A number of people are believed to have been in the area near the time of the attack, so we want to hear from those people – as well as any motorists passing that area at the time who may have dashcam footage," Brooks said.

The teenagers were being questioned, and it wasn’t clear if they have been charged in connection with the incident. The motive behind the assault was also not clear.

Earlier this month, four people, including two teenage boys, in Manchester, were found guilty of murdering a man simply to rob him of his Rolex watch. CCTV footage showed the accused kicking 34-year-old Steven McMyler forcefully to the head during the assault, following which he fell unconscious. They were convicted of conspiracy to rob and manslaughter.
