9-Year-Old Allegedly Raped By Drunk Neighbor During Dinner Gathering At Home

A man in India was arrested for allegedly raping his 9-year-old neighbor during a dinner gathering at the latter's home in India.

The suspect had arrived at the victim's home with his wife and son. He then took the girl away from her family while people were present inside the home in the state of Uttar Pradesh, The Times of India reported Wednesday.

The man, who has not been identified, raped the girl and also threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone. The girl had initially kept quiet, but later complained of pain, India Today reported.

When her grandmother questioned her, she spoke out about her ordeal, saying her "uncle" had sexually assaulted her after the dinner gathering. The parents then immediately rushed to the police to lodge a complaint. A case was filed against the accused Tuesday.

The report stated that the accused, who lives in the city of Bareilly, was known to the victim and her family. The police later found out he was drunk when he committed the crime. He was visiting the family of the victim along with his pregnant wife and son.

The police charged the accused under Sections 376 (rape) 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code along with charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act. A medical examination on the victim confirmed the sexual assault, police said.

“The minor girl has been given treatment, and proper counseling will be provided to her and her parents to overcome the traumatic experience. The accused has been sent to jail after he confessed to have raped the girl under the influence of alcohol,” a senior police officer reportedly said.

In a similar incident in Bareilly, a 9-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 13-year-old boy while she was playing with a friend outside her house. The minor boy, who lived near the girl’s house, dragged her to a secluded place, and raped her. The girl's mother found out about the assault when the child came home crying. When the mother decided to file a complaint, the accused and his father threatened her.
