Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz has revealed how he came to date Jennifer Aniston in 1995, before the "Friends" star and Brad Pitt even became a couple.
A sneak peek at the "Dark Side of the 90s" special on Entertainment Tonight revealed how a white lie told to Duritz by his friends had led to him dating Aniston. He said their first encounter was at The Viper Room in Los Angeles, which was Johnny Depp's celebrity hot spot during the 90s.
NBC comedy "Friends" was already a household name at the time, but Duritz did not know that Aniston was part of its cast. According to him, he mostly "lived at The Viper Room, night in and night out," and that was where he and Aniston were set up by their friends.
"A bunch of my friends lied to me and told me she had a crush on me," Duritz could be heard saying in the sneak peek. "Those same friends lied to her and told her I had a crush on her."
The musician admitted that he had no idea who Aniston was when he went out with her. "I had been on the road during all of 'Friends.' I had never seen it, I don't think," he revealed.
Duritz described Aniston as a "really nice, really funny, really pretty" woman. "And also, she liked me," he added.
Their time together did not last long, Duritz admitted. But despite that, he remembers the famous actress as a "nice girl" to this day.
Aniston was not the only "Friends" star Duritz dated. In 1997, two years after he and Aniston called it quits, Duritz dated Aniston's best friend and "Friends" co-star, Courteney Cox. The two first met in 1996 on the set of the "A Long December" music video and announced their romance a year later.
Duritz, who is currently single, told Men's Health in 2014 that both Aniston and Cox were nice girls and that his relationships with them were not a huge deal. "They were nice girls and I went out with them and that was that," he said.
