After Suicide Threat, Harvey Weinstein Changes Rehab: Report
Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein reportedly took a private jet to a rehab facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, TMZ reported Thursday. The plane landed in a different destination than originally planned. The flight was apparently diverted “at the last minute.” The day before, his daughter dialed 911 because Weinstein was suicidal and depressed.
Weinstein, 65, was reportedly being treated at an unnamed facility in Scottsdale, sources told the publication. He was supposedly slated to be treated at The Meadows rehab facility near Wickenburg, Arizona.
Earlier, it was reported that Weinstein might flee the country and go to Europe for treatment. His team apparently decided it would be best for him to get help in the U.S. He is reportedly being treated for behavioral issues, including sex addiction.
Weinstein said he was not “OK” in his first statement since numerous women accused him of sexual assault.
“Guys, I'm not doing OK but I'm trying. I got to get help. You know what, we all make mistakes. ... A second chance, I hope,” Weinstein said in a video that was taken Wednesday outside the Los Angeles home of daughter Lily Weinstein. The footage was obtained by ABC News.
Weinstein claimed he essentially didn’t think he did anything wrong. “Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances,” a statement from his representative said. “Mr. Weinstein obviously can’t speak to anonymous allegations, but with respect to any women who have made allegations on the record, Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual. Mr. Weinstein has begun counseling, has listened to the community and is pursuing a better path. Mr. Weinstein is hoping that, if he makes enough progress, he will be given a second chance.”
Actress Kate Beckinsale said Weinstein didn’t remember if he assaulted her.
“I was incredibly naive and young, and it did not cross my mind that this older, unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him,” she said. “After declining alcohol and announcing that I had school in the morning, I left, uneasy but unscathed.”
“A few years later he asked me if he had tried anything with me in that first meeting. I realized he couldn't remember if he had assaulted me or not,” she continued. “I had what I thought were boundaries — I said no to him professionally many times over the years — some of which ended up with him screaming at me calling me a c--t and making threats, some of which made him laughingly tell people, 'Oh, Kate lives to say no to me.' It speaks to the status quo in this business that I was aware that standing up for myself and saying no to things, while it did allow me to feel uncompromised in myself, undoubtedly harmed my career and was never something I felt supported by anyone other than my family.”
