Allison Janney’s 'Mom' Ending After Eight Seasons, Anna Faris' Exit

The hit CBS sitcom "Mom" is bidding goodbye after eight seasons and just one season following Anna Faris' exit from the show.

The CBS sitcom that starred Faris and Janney will conclude in Season 8, the network announced Wednesday, People reported. Janney, 61, scored multiple nominations in the best supporting actress category for her role as Bonnie in the sitcom in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. She won the award in 2014 and 2015.

The show was also nominated for three Critics' Choice Awards, including Best Comedy Series just last month.

Faris played Janney's onscreen daughter Christy in the sitcom. However, she announced her exit from the show before season eight premiered saying she wanted to "pursue new opportunities."

"The past seven years on Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career. I'm so thankful to Chuck, the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience," Faris said. "While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I'll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family."

Just recently, Janney appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and spoke about filming the show without Faris. The award-winning actress shared that they missed Faris and her character. But they were also happy for her knowing that she is doing what she loves to do.

"It was very odd, and she’s very missed. Anna is missed, and her character on the show is missed," the seven-time Emmy winner said Tuesday.

"We’re just happy that she’s doing what she wants to do now, and we’re happy even more so that we’re able to tell these stories about these great women in recovery. And I think there have been some really wonderful characters that have been established, and people love the show, so we’re going to keep telling the stories as long as we can."

Janney previously said that not having Faris on the show was a "huge loss." Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions decided not to recast Faris' character because she was their only choice to play the role.
